Buddy in Kabul
The picture below is Buddy a few days ago at the shelter in Kabul. Obviously the date on the camera is incorrect, sorry about that. Also, you can go to the nowzad dogs website for their update and story on Bear & Buddy:

Update on Buddy
Well it seems that our friends, Buddy and Bear, have made it to Kabul already. Now not only are they battle hardened, they are seasoned travelers capable of making long journeys across war-zones! That aside, Buddie's at 35% and Bear is all the way there.
The shelter said that right now both dogs are a little bit too young to bring home now, but maybe by the time it's time for me to return, they will be on their way as well. I'm thinking that it should only be another 30-45 days until they can start their next leg.

Also, I'd like to thank all of you again and also my girlfriend, Meredith, for setting this up. All I've really done is typed a paragraph or two on this page. She's been feeding me the updates and talking with Bear's new mom and Pen from nowzad dogs.

2nd leg of Buddy's Journey
Both dogs, Buddy and Bear, are now in the hands of the Local National on their trip across Afghanistan.
Can't believe Buddy is at 24% in less than 3 days. If he only knew that people were donating their hard earned money, especially in today's economic turmoil, he would well....actually he's a dog so he might not understand but I certainly do and want to say once again, thank you for your support, all the Marines here are reading your comments and can't wait to see Buddy when we get back.

Buddy Starts His Journey
Buddy had his first helicopter ride and is now in Herat awaiting a local national to drive him to kabul. It's about 450 miles across afghanistan. Once he gets to kabul safely, he will be taken to an animal shelter in the city. I'll keep you updated when possible! Thank you all for your donations and kind words

Buddy needs your help...
We found Buddy in the baazar of a remote city in north western Afghanistan when he was no more than 6 weeks old. He was malnourished and probably slept outside in temperatures below freezing at night. Regardless of his condition, he was still one of the liveliest and most easygoing dogs any of us had ever met. We brought him back to our Firebase and took him in as the team dog.
Amidst rocket attacks and heavy fighting he's provided countless hours of enjoyment for us while we aren't working and has done alot to take everyones mind off of the living conditions and war going on at our doorstep. Nothing beats coming back to go to sleep at 4 AM only to find Buddy already in my bed curled up in my sleeping bag! He lives with us and will continue to live with us until I can hopefully bring him home with me and give him a nice warm place to sleep at the foot of my bed at my house in Wilmington, NC.
He's done so much for the morale of 20 Marines that it would be a tragedy to have to leave him behind. He currently sleeps in my tent and during the day enjoys playing with his friend "Bear" who is also being brought back to the US. If Buddy makes it back, it means he has been given a chance at a better life, and he deserves this because he has definitely made mine better already!
Thank you,
George

More about Buddy
George is my boyfriend and I'm trying to help him get Buddy out of Afghanistan. Unfortunately, it seems this won't be an easy task. His trip back to NC will involve getting him vaccinated, tested for rabies, and transporting him to a shelter by locals (very dangerous/unpredictable), and finally, shipping costs to the U. S.
Please if you can donate it will be greatly appreciated. If for some reason we cannot get Buddy home (since it is a war zone) all of the money collected will be given to nowzad dogs, which helps service members bring home their new friends.
Thank you so much for all your help & passing this link on to all of the dog lovers you know!
